DSL Information
High Speed Internet Access is now available in our community
via Bell South's DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) service.
DSL is a great technology that works over your existing
phone line, and allows you to access the internet many times
faster than dial up, and you can use the phone at the same
time! No more busy signals! No more waiting for
pages to load or choppy video!

If you have more than one computer in your home, and you
want all of them to share the DSL line, and share printers,
files, etc... then one simple additional piece of hardware
will not only allow all of this, but also allow you to use
your laptop anywhere in your home via a wireless link.
These devices come in many "flavors" but I currently
recommend the
Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router.
Click here to buy it from NewEgg for $52.99 after
rebate! ($6.67 3 day shipping.)
Update -
Click here to buy it from ZipZoomFly for
$39.99 after
rebate!!! (FREE Shipping)
This device plugs into your DSL "Modem" instead of your
computer, and then you either connect your computer to it
(So it sits between your computer and the DSL "Modem" or you
connect to it wirelessly.
A HUGE advantage of this device, above and beyond what was
mentioned in the previous paragraph is that it acts as
HARDWARE FIREWALL - Protecting your machines from hackers,
and worms 24x7 - WELL WORTH $39.99 EVEN IF YOU HAVE ONLY 1
PC and DON'T CURRENTLY NEED WIRELESS!!!
There are 4 wired ports on it to hook up 4 computers in your
house via wire (Expandable) and as many as you want via
wireless.
So if you have a computer in the office, and another in the
bedroom, both can share the DSL line, both share files back
and forth, both share printers, etc...
Give me a call if you need help setting any of this up - I'm
happy to help - Here is a diagram I did to show how to
connect things:
